Selection of a programmable keyboard

Microinvest's products have the ability to adapt to any keyboard. By detailed selection of keys to predefined functions, the products do not depend on the programmable keypad model or key distribution. Keyboard adaptation is done by setting up the program product. The only requirement for the programmable keyboard is that each key has its own unique code in the system. In this case, it is not necessary to reprogram the keyboard itself, the program product creates an in-line match between each key and the required function. This means that virtually any programmable keyboard is suitable for use in Microinvest's products, regardless of its functionality, origin, manufacturer, model, technology, or embedded software.

Work and setup technology

The keypad setting is done by the following few steps:

  1. The main system setup opens a table with all the features of the program product;
  2. To each individual function is assigned an individual key from the programmable keyboard;
  3. The key assignment by function is stored.

As a result of this setting, the software program creates a "keyboard card" and then performs the functions in accordance with that map. The key is dynamically "attached" to its function.

Assigning an item to a key

Assigning a particular item to a key is done by using the keyboard's programming tools. Examples of assigning an item’s code are programming a sequence of keys to a button:

  1. When programming sequence 123 <Enter>, item code 123 is called up;
  2. When programming sequence 123 <Enter> 1 <Enter>, code 123 is called up and a quantity of 1 is automatically entered;
  3. When programming sequence 123 <Enter> 5 <Enter> 100 <Enter>, code 123 is called up, the quantity is 5 and price is 100 are automatically filled in.

Combinations of this type may be arbitrary and depend solely on the end-user's desire to facilitate the work of the cashier's operators. One of the fields can be assigned to the keys:

  1. Product Code;
  2. Barcode;
  3. Quantity and price;
  4. Any other function of the program that is related to the item.

As an example of the last point, you can specify the sequence: 123 <Enter> <Ctrl> F <Enter>. This sequence selects an item with code 123, confirms the choice of the item, and immediately asks for a balance for the quantity of the item. In this way, one key automatically introduces the selected item together with the moment quantity of the scale.

Replacement of a key or the entire keyboard

The built-in technology for working with a programmable keyboard has several unquestionable advantages:

  • Any keyboard may be used, regardless of manufacturer or functionalities;
  • If the keyboard does not have service software or does not allow you to define function keys, this is not a problem because the program adapts to the actual status of the keys;
  • In case of a defect in a certain key, through the settings this key can be replaced by any other key without any additional keyboard reprogramming;
  • The same system can work on different keyboards - for example, using 60, 78, 80 or 102 keys at the individual workstations simultaneously, or even combined using a standard and programmable keyboard.

To replace a defective key, it is enough to open the system setup and assign a new key to the old one.

Card reader

If the programmable keyboard is equipped with a magnetic or RFID card reader, its functions are used without any additional setup or programming. A reader of this type is automatically added to the system and works transparently, without any external software or driver. Depending on the reader's capabilities, it may be necessary to exclude prefix and suffix transmission. This setting is performed according to the instructions given in the Peripheral Setup Articles. It is desirable to transmit the data at maximum speed.

Key duplication

There is powerful protection against accidental duplication of a key. If the program detects that a key is defined twice for different functions then it is automatically forbidden to record such a setting until the discontinuity is removed. In this way, protection has been introduced for improperly defined function keys.
