Connection with Hardware Devices

The products of Microinvest are compatible with a wide variety of different peripheral devices, such as fiscal printers, electronic scales, kitchen and check printers, data collector terminals, customer displays, video cameras, etc. A notable advantage of our products is that all drivers are incorporated and no installation of additional driver software is required.

Rules for Starting a Device

The following represent basic rules for how a device is to be connected with a Microinvest product:

  • A free COM port is required (the same is valid for USB and LAN devices);
  • The respective device is connected to the COM port with its original cable;
  • It is important for all drivers to be checked and uninstalled, unless the opposite is specified. Often, the drivers occupy a separate COM port, and do not allow other program products to communicate via the occupied COM port, thus the device is inaccessible;
  • It is recommended that the connection parameters be set up in accordance with the default settings. Microinvest devotes special attention to trace and match the parameters for connection with default settings, as thus any possible errors that might arise from improper configuration are eliminated;
  • Microinvest advises that the encoding of a device be kept unchanged, since an improper setting or configuration may lead to a distortion in showing text in Cyrillic. When choosing a device, the program by itself determines the device’s code table in alignment with the technical documentation, received by the manufacturer of the device.

Examples of settings of fiscal printers. When a fiscal printer setting is selected:

  • Mercury 140, this represents direct management of the printer;
  • Mercury 140 (Atol Driver), management of the printer through a chosen driver;
  • Microinvest KMM Manager, management of the fiscal printer through Microinvest KMM Manager.

Fiscal Printers

Fiscal printers are plugged to the cashier’s workstation and are managed by Microinvest Warehouse Pro Light. The management of the fiscal printers is achieved via one of the following 3 methods:

  • Direct Management. With direct management, a COM port, speed and password for connecting with the device are defined. Microinvest Warehouse Pro Light communicates through an incorporated driver on a device protocol level. This is the most widely used technology for work with fiscal printers. It causes the fewest problems as well, since there are no intermediaries in the communication and the printer is managed directly by the program.
  • Management through a driver. An external driver, supplied by the printer’s manufacturer, is installed. Microinvest Warehouse Pro Light manages the driver of the printer, and the driver on its own turn manages the printer itself. This technology is slower for work, requires precise driver settings and a consequent setup of the program itself. The only advantage of this method is the fact that two different programs can work with one and the same printer. This way, the sharing of the printer for performing different tasks is enabled.
  • Management through Microinvest KMM Manager. Microinvest Warehouse Pro Light transmits data to Microinvest KMM Manager, which manages the fiscal printer. This technology ensures compatibility with older devices and is recommended for work in real time. It is used for compatibility, yet Microinvest recommend Direct Management to be used instead of management through Microinvest KMM Manager.

Kitchen printers

Kitchen printers work in the same technology as fiscal printers. The settings can be made exactly in the way the fiscal printer settings are made, and working without a driver is recommended. Unlike with fiscal printers, a script for every row can be created with a kitchen printer. This way, customized design of the bills for the bar and the kitchen can be created.

Check Printers

The check printer is similar to a kitchen printer, which works in a fiscal printer regime. The type of the bill can be changed and a check can be issued, however, the control and fiscal part of the device are not included. Check printers function and are set up in the same way as fiscal printers. Unlike fiscal printers, with check printers, a script for every row can be created. Thus, a customized bill for the customer can be created.

Electronic Scales

Electronic scales are integrated with Microinvest Warehouse Pro Light without any additional drivers or programs. It is sufficient for a device to be connected and the COM port or the corresponding IP address in LAN connection to be configured. With scales, it is important for the design of labels, the management of products and the barcodes to be configured and set up. The latter are performed according to the guidelines of the scales manufacturers.

Customer Display

The customer display is a device, which is easily connected with the computer. With COM connection, it is enough to specify the device model, the COM port number and the communication speed. The connection is stable and, practically, there are no specific features during a work regime. The only thing that is important is the appropriate work model to be set up.

Portable Scanners

The connection between a data collector terminal and Microinvest Warehouse Pro is achieved via a separate program product – Microinvest Data Collector. The setup of the product is analogous to the setup of a fiscal printer, as the communication is done by COM, USB and LAN. The full documentation of a given terminal should be carefully observed and followed as well.

Other Devices

Microinvest Warehouse Pro Light can manage other devices as well. Because such are similar to the above-listed devices, their setup is also similar to the settings parameters described above.
