Microinvest Archi Pro is a powerful application for automation of archiving processes and recovering data. The program works autonomously and can administer different databases with different SQL servers. The program supports the following databases:

  • Microsoft Access
  • MSDE
  • MySQL
  • Microsoft SQL

The system is able to archive both automatically and manually at any time.

Working with Microinvest Archi Pro

There are a number of requirements for properly working with Microinvest Archi Pro:

  • When working with an SQL Server, Microinvest Archi Pro must be installed on the computer where the MSDE, MySQL or Microsoft SQL Server is installed.
  • When working with Access database, the program is installed on the computer, which stores the database.
  • For proper product installation and functioning, Administrator access rights are required by the operation system.
  • The archived file is named according to the settings of the archiving system, as a file named means:
    • The name of the archived base is Microinvest;
    • The date of archiving - when the file was created (26 January 2010);
    • The time of archiving is 12:33.

The user of the SQL Server must have rights for reading and saving on the disk or directory where the archives will be created. If the user does not have such rights, Microinvest Archi Pro will show an error message “An error occurred during archiving”, with a description of the problem in the “Description” tag stating “Could not open backup device”. This means that the SQL Server does not have rights for access to the directory that you had chosen in Microinvest Archi Pro.

Settings and Configuration

During the initial starting of Microinvest Archi Pro, an configuration wizard is started. Though this wizard, all parameters for functioning of the program are set up. In most cases the configuration is performed once, while the program itself works continuously without the need of repetitive configuring.

Sample Configuration

  • Step1: Selection of Server

After the appearance of the configuration wizard, the button Next should be pressed and a window containing “Select Server” pops out. The server, in this case SQL Server, is selected in the “Database Type” field from the dropdown menu. The IP address of the server through which the database is administered, is filled in the “Server” field. The name of the SQL user, in this case “sa”, is filled in the “User Name” field. The password for connecting with the SQL Server, for example “passw0rd”, is filled in the “Password” field. The password must correspond to the password set up in the other Microinvest products. In order for the connection with the server to be checked, it is necessary to click on the “Connection Test” button. If all data have been filled correctly, the program will inform that “The connection with the database has been successfully established”. At the moment you receive a confirmation, you can proceed to the next step by clicking on "Next".

  • Step 2: Database Selection

After successfully completing the data from the previous step, a “Database Selection” window, which is divided in two sides, appears. On the left side, the databases, available on the server, are located, whereas on the right side the databases needed to be archived, can be selected. With the help of the mouse, the database which will be archived is selected and by pressing the „>“ button, the database will be moved to the right window. The name of the database shifts from the left to the right side of the window. Thus, in the right side we select one or more databases, which will be archived. After the database selection has been completed, click on the “Next” button.

  • Step 3: Settings of the Archiving Mode

The next step is to determine the settings of the archiving mode. The window “Backup Settings” appears, as in the field “Backup Type” we choose “Standard” (it is recommendable that we follow the suggestion which the program has generated). In the “Maximum backups allowed” field we enter the maximum of saved archive files. Then we select the backup folder and we choose the desired database (it is recommendable to be „D:\Backup“). In the “Name pattern” the automatic creation of a file name is selected. It is recommended that the formatting of the date and time to be after the name of your database, in this case „Microinvest_yyyy_MM_dd_HH_mm_ss“, where yyyy is year, MM is month, dd is the day, HH is hour, mm are minutes and ss are seconds. There is a field with formatting review below the dropdown menu for selecting the format of the archive name. After the successful completion of these settings, click on the “Next” button.

  • Step 4: Backup Schedule

Now an backup schedule must be set up. An “Backup Schedule” window appears, in which the time for automatic archiving is set up. Through “Backup Type”, the basis on which the timers will work is selected. The possibilities are:

  • “Hourly”
  • “Daily”
  • “Weekly”

Like in the example, we will choose to perform archiving every three hours. Thus, in “Backup type”, “Hourly” is selected, and in the “Interval” field, 3 is selected. This way, the program will perform archiving every three hours. After this setting is completed, in order to proceed to the next step, click on the “Next” button.

  • Step 5: Overview of the defined settings

A window “Overview of settings”, in which all settings, selected until this moment in the configuration wizard, appears. If all settings comply with the required parameters, click on the “Next” button.

  • Step 6: Finalizing

This is the last step in configuring the application. A window from the configuration wizard appears, as it is desirable for an “Archive now” tick to be placed and the “Finish” button to be clicked on. Then the program will perform the saving of the settings and then will perform the archiving. After successfully configuring, the application is minimized in the Windows Tray menu. In order to be open in a settings regime, it is necessary to double-click on the icon. Then, an icon for visualizing the menu of the application, described in the “Working with the application” section, appears.
